Fresh from your home to our website. Here are some of the memories you have shared with us:

Name: Matt
Petname: Bootsie (Kitty/Stamp)

Just a quick note. It's been a week since we brought Bootsie home, she is adapting well and loving life with her new brother (Blitz, left) and sister (Bailey, right).  She has been a joy to have in the house!                                            5/12/08

Name: Jill
Petname: Brandy

Just thought I would all let you know that Brandy's first night in her new home was wonderful.  She is just wonderful - very loveable, cuddler, knows where to go potty.  Slept by my side all night.  My other dogs like her very much.  A great new addition to our family.

Thank you.

Name: Charissa
Petname: Allie

I adopted a Golden retriever/ Springer Spaniel mix from you 4 years ago, when she was just 15 months old. She had a rough history, was born on the street, brought in at just a few weeks as a stray, then adopted and returned 2 times before she was a year and a half old due to behavior problems. She chewed everything in sight, and was aggressive with other animals.  There was some concern about us bringing her home because we owned another dog (a toy fox terrior) at the time. I am happy to report that in the 4 years we have owned her she has chewed nothing but a phone book, (and that was in the first week!), and she gets along beautifully with most animals. She and Duke were the best of friends until he passed away last year.  Allie is the best dog, and everyone who meets her just loves her. She is quiet, loving, patient, and protective. We have now added 2 human daughters to our household, and she treats them as if they are hers. She cuddles with them, watches over them, lets me know if they are in trouble, and lets the 2 yr old dress her up and treat her like a jungle gym. We couldn't have asked for a better dog! Thank you. We will definitely be adopting from you again.                                                                                     4/26/08

Petname: Duchess (Heather)

I originally adopted another puppy (male) at 12 weeks old but do the heart failure he passed away the night I took him home.  The way my family and I figure it is that he knew he wasn't going to last long so he wanted another puppy to have the chance to become part of our family.  The day after, my mom (I was still crying) called the SPCA and told them the situation and asked them to let us know if another puppy came up for adoption.  Well about 15 minutes later they called and we went online to look at the two that where available.  It felt better to get the female because then we wouldn't be replacing the other puppy. She was so adorable and man does she have character!  She makes you laugh everyday.  The best part is that she reminds us so much of the last dog we had (put down 4 years ago) and we really loved her too - including her stubborn side.

Name: The Liuzzi family
Petname: Franklin

We are thrilled to see that the loveable cat that recently showed up at our door, now known as Franklin, has been adopted! He mushed his way into our hearts, but as the adopted family of three stray cats already, we just couldn't find room for him. We notified all the available outlets, placed an ad in the paper and tried to find him a home among our friends. We were broken hearted to have to surrender him to the SPCA but we trusted that they would give him the best care and find him a loving home. Who knew it would be so quick? We rejoice with Franklin's new family and wish them well. He is so full of love he deserves the very best! Thank you SPCA and volunteers for more than living up to our hopes. This is a happy ending for our family as well!                                                                                                            4/14/08

Name: Brad & Linda
Petname: Reme, formerly Bear

Niagara County SPCA;

Last week, just prior to Easter, we contacted you concerning the adoption of a pet dog. We have been looking to obtain a pet for about two weeks having visited the SPCA at Angola and Tonawanda as well as visiting a pet breeder in North Collins. We feel extremely fortunate to have adopted a Pomeranian mix dog from you. His former name was Bear but has been renamed Reme. as in REscue ME. As a reminder, Reme was seven years old and had a number of perceived "concerns".
As it turned out, Reme is an absolute delight. He's house trained, doesn't bark, enjoys being groomed, loves being rubbed, plays chase with the ball and wants to be at our side. He travels well in our car, is great with family and strangers and because of the previous owner, has been socialized extremely well. He acts like he had been a member of the family for years.
We were very fortunate to obtain him and feel even better about finding our little friend from the SPCA. Your health history and licensing are excellent services and your staff informed and treated us very well. We couldn't be happier and would recommend you to any future adoptive pet owners. Thank you for your service and we are so happy to have found Reme who only needed a new home.

Name: Stacey & Derek
Petname: Charcoal-the former Peppurr

After two bad experiences with a local pet adoption agency, I found the Niagara SPCA.  A friend had recommended them.  I have to say that I had a GREAT experience. I was greeted by very friendly woman at the front desk (on the phone and when I walked in).  They made the adoption experience a positive one.   Needless to say, I adopted a cat named Peppurr (whose name was changed to Charcoal).  He is a beautiful and spunky little cat.  Thank-you for making our experience a good one.  We will be sure to adopt again.  He needs a kitty companion!

Keep the positive attitudes that ALL of you had!  You make joyful experiences for new "parents".  Take Care..and we will see you soon.

Name: Terri
Petname: Toulouse

I have always wanted to have an orange and white kitty with the white bib. My husband was cruising your website and found my true love that was back June of 07.  I was so anxious to see him that I got there before you opened. I was like a new mother waiting to see her baby. When I got to hold him I couldn't him down it was love at first site. We named him Toulouse after the orange kitty from the Aristocats.  He is almost a year old now and always into trouble but I wouldn't have him any other way he is the love of my life. He adjusted quite well with our other cats two of which we also adopted from there Tazzie a Siamese mix is 15 now and Cruella DeVille aka Ella  a lynx point mix is almost two now.  Thank you to all the staff at the shelter for be so friendly and taking care of all of these wonderful animals.

Petname: Timber

My girlfriend and I have been looking for the perfect addition to our home for a while now.  I recently went onto the Niagara SPCA website and viewed a picture of a Siberian named "Timber".  As soon as I could get my jacket on, we drove out to the SPCA facility in a hope to meet the young pup whom we ended up adopting.  The people that work the SPCA in Niagara county are extremely polite and caring about their animals.  We would like to give our greatest thanks to them and would like them to know that "Timber" is just what we were looking for..

Thanks
   Jason and Shoshana

Petname: Hunny Bee

Our family adopted Hunny Bee, also know as Beatrice, when she was 5 months old. She is now 15 months. She has adapted very well. Our other dogs adjusted well and they have all found their place (rank) in our home. Bee is low girl on the pole, however Molly and Chewy allow her to move up now and then. Bee thinks she is a lap dog @45 lbs, but that's ok. She also likes to be held on your hip like a baby. Thanks for our wonderful family member.

I visited your shelter in August 07. I had chosen a little gray kitten who was only 8 weeks old. Unfortunately, I had chosen a kitten who ended up testing positive for FIV and I was unable to adopt her. I went back to the shelter just to receive final paperwork but ended up looking into the cat room for a second. The first cage I looked into I saw my future kitty. She was white and tiny, only 10 weeks old. I asked to see her and noticed she had two different colored eyes (one green, at that time, and one blue). I was told that this little kitty was deaf. I considered the obstacles I would face with owning a deaf cat and decided that this cat deserved to live with me! I took her home after her surgery and within just a few hours realized she was not deaf at all. Upon later vet visits my insight was indeed true! No hearing problems at all! She is now about 9 months old and truly a loving baby. She is just part of the family and fits in so well. She enjoys sleeping in her bed (and the sink ha ha), watching birds out the window, getting brushed, and getting pet by her owners! I just love her so much and am so happy I get to share in her life. Thanks so much for all you do at the animal shelter. You are bringing joy into many lives!

Name: Melissa
Petname: Diogee and Sandy

I adopted 2 German Shepherd mix puppies who were litter mates from the Rainbow Shelter almost 15 years ago.  I had to put Fancy down in August because her heart finally gave out.  It was very hard for our family.  We were going to wait until Diogee was gone to get another dog, but Sandy (Xena) caught my eye on the website.  The whole family, including almost 15 year old Diogee went for a visit to the Rainbow Shelter.  We adopted Sandy 2 weeks ago, and she is the best dog.  She is so happy to see us every time we walk in the door.  She loves walks and attention.  She is learning to love our cats and now enjoys licking them with her big tongue.  You can see that Sandy and Diogee are good friends.  They especially enjoy playing in the snow and taking walks together.  Thank you Rainbow Shelter for 3 great dogs.  I hope Sandy lives until 15!

Name: Sue
Petname: Adeline

Adeline is adjusting well after spending the first 24 hours under any bed or couch she could find along her trails.  Today I came home to find her sprawled out ON TOP of our guest bed and she began to purr when I came up to her! She is now sleeping on one end of the bed and one of our other cats is sleeping at the other! She is a beautiful cat and we're so happy to have her.  Someday when all four sisters are together I will send a family photo! My husband just loves her - I can't believe he actually wanted us to bring home another cat since we just adopted another abandoned cat in October - she was meant to come live with us and be a part of our family! Thanks to the Niagara Gazette and their cat stories we now have two beautiful siamese mix blue-eyed beauties!

Petname: Nina

My boyfriend and I adopted a 3 month old kitten hoping that my dog of about 8 years would welcome her happily, as it turns out I was completely wrong. The first couple days were HELL, I actually thought at one point I would have to give little Nina up. Biting scratching chasing hiding hissing barking, the works. However due to some sort of miracle they started getting along, I might even go as far as to say that they like each other now. Here is a picture of my favorite girls and our miracle break through.

Our apologies to the next three Happy Tales senders. These were received awhile ago and, due to "technical difficulties" we were unable to post them until now. Sorry for the delay folks!!!

Name: Mary
Petname: Majik

Hello staff and friends of the animals. I am Mary! I adopted Majik Jan. 8th, the long stay mother cat that no one wanted. I sure am GLAD I DID! She is beautiful and adapting well to her new home and her sister (as you can see in the attached photo). She is getting a more beautiful coat too!
We kept Maisy & Majik separate for the first week . Majik  was in my sons room where there is a gap between the floor and carpet to his room. Maisy , the oldest (2 1/2 yrs), also a former cat from your bed, play and breakfast cubby area, was so curious that she would just sit and sniff the door bottom. It wasn't until one day that Majik noticed something by the door and snuck her paw beneath the door. Surprise, Maisy wasn't expecting that and leaped backwards while arched in the air. How funny to see. Anyways, that was the first and not final sniff off. She boldly returned and often just sat there.
We, within a week had Majik vet checked with our Ford vet and found her incision to be healed well enough to introduce them. We left the box and a blanket in the room where Majik stayed, but let the door stay open until she no longer sought shelter in that box. It was Majik's safe zone for a while. PLUS, my oldest always gave her his clothing items when he left for school so that Majik would love him more. She did for a while then I told him about her feeding , grooming, and litter changes, oh, did I forget to mention vet bills. Well, that was it, she was MY cat again. Not to mention I added to him that I wanted him to pay me the adoption fee of $150.00. Oh, and the stool sample exam fee.
Back to the girls, eventually they sniffed and followed each other a lot. It was like Maisy had a shadow. & It didn't end there. The girls now sniff and chase, play, lay,and sometimes disagree over whose territory it is. Majik being younger and having more energy , I think, gets the best of those times.
My girls are finding there is enough love for the both of them, enough food and water, and adequate litter( even though Majik has discovered the secret cat flap to the basement now (this is where Maisy likes to be and has a box down there). Not hers anymore, they share I believe. They share a toy box, and ball chases.
Majik & Maisy are two totally different personalities, though fun. Majik loves to be sat by (NOT a lap cat YET). She loves to be brushed and have her tummy rubbed. She purrs so loud that you would guess someone was snowblowing or mowing lawn. She loves to call for you if she can't see you, or her sister.
Maisy on the other hand hates being brushed, LOVES Laptime, purrs so silently , and bites the hand that touches her tummy.
Go figure, I just have to remember which one I am with when they are together and steer clear of getting them confused.
As a joke: confucious says You may be the master to the cat, BUT, the cat has claws and isn't afraid to use them.

Thank You for the care you gave Majik while she waited to find me. Another Caregiver, Mary A.

Name:    Melanie and Jason
Petname: Marmalade and Sunkist

We came into the SPCA to find a new family member.  We were looking for a black female kitten that we had seen on the website.  As soon as we walked into the cat room Marmalade, who is a orange and white very small kitten, started pawing at the cage door to get to us.  She had me right there.  Her sister was in the cage right next to her.  Sunkist had Jason at that moment as well.  She is all orange.  Since the kitten was my christmas present I got to pick.  We adopted Marmie.  When we came back two days later to pick her up we adopted Sunny.  We felt that if she was still there she was meant to come home with us.  Not that we don't have a big enough family.  Two adults and 7 kids including 4 month old twins.  The two of them just blend in with our zoo.  The girls are both very cuddly and sweet.  They both love Mom and Dad's bed and sleep under the covers if they can.  We love having them despite our rough start with their spaying.  We wouldn't trade our babies for anything.

Petname: Raven/Chelsea formerly Eban and Star

Over this past summer we lost two cats, one to cancer and one to old age. My only surviving cat was lonely and very sad, as well as my two children who loved the cats very much. We decided to welcome a new kitten into our home and adopted "Star" now renamed Chelsea Noelle. When we were choosing Chelsea my son felt sorry for this beautiful black cat named "Eban" who had been at the shelter for about eight months. The volunteer also felt sorry that no one had adopted her in her long stay. In a few days we talked it over and adopted "Eban" now named Raven Angel. My concern was
her being caged for so long how she would adapt to her new home. I am thrilled to report both kittens are so sweet, get along extremely well with our older male cat and my husband who was still grieving from the loss of our other cats adores them both. They are truly wonderful additions to our family. Thank you so much for their care and love prior to their adoptions! Sincerely,Kristi, Mark, Nicky, Danielle ,Chelsea and Raven.

Petname: Princess Snow-Snow

In early December, my 10 year old daughter and I decided that it was the right time to adopt a cat.  We had just bought our first house, and the end of my relationship with my ex had us a little down in spirit.  We had seen a picture of a beautiful white cat on an adoption website and my little girl just thought she was the prettiest thing ever.  When we arrived at the shelter and started looking at all of the cats, the little kittens were all meowing and sticking their paws out and my heart was just melting.  Then I saw Princess Snow-Snow and she was just laying there looking at me.  She was quiet, and looked regal in her nature.  I noticed that her cage said she had been there since August and I just knew she was the one.  When I held her, she cuddled right into me, and when Tawney held her she did the same.  That day we took her home, knowing that she was uncomfortable around people until she was sure they wouldn't hurt her.  For the first 24 hours we didn't even see her.  The second day when I arrived home from work and Tawney from school, she greeted us at the door just meowing away, rubbing against our ankles and letting us pet her all we wanted.  That week, I had an accident at work and fractured my ankle, needing surgery and serious time on the couch and in bed.  Princess Snow-Snow likes to cuddle against my braced ankle to sleep.  She has made my injury and resulting  down time a lot brighter.  She loves to nap in the bathtub and sink, and to look at herself in the mirrors.  Her favorite toys are my ponytail hair elastics, which she will stand up on her hind legs and bat them around with her front paws before taking them in her mouth and throwing them around.  Adopting a cat was not something I thought I would ever do.  I have never been a "cat person" and I never thought I would ever be.  This wonderful little animal has changed all of that.  She comforts me, amuses me, and loves me just as much as I love her. Even now, as she sits next to my computer monitor, chasing the cursor with her paws as I move the mouse, my heart is full of love. Princess snow-snow has a wonderful home, and I have a wonderful new friend, thank you so much!
