Labor Of Love

The Class of 2011 was VERY excited about their service project for this year. The class had heard about the recent dog rescue and the 60 plus dogs that arrived at the SPCA. Wanting to help, they decided to collect monetary and product donations for the animals and also to organize a bed building project. A collection was taken up for PVC pipe and durable canvas to make the elevated pet beds. Word of the undertaking spread quickly and they soon had a force of over 40 volunteers consisting of family, friends, staff, the NFHS Key Club, the Honor Society and student volunteers. Gross Plumbing also built some of the frames. All gathered at the school cafeteria on Saturday, March 6th, to assemble the beds to be brought to the SPCA.
As well as the above endeavors, the class heard about our shamrock sale and dropped by the shelter for a template to make more. Getting quickly to work, they traced and cut out dozens of shamrocks to raise donations for the shelter.
This venture also got the students thinking about animal issues and they began researching animal cruelty and writing letters to government officials. Everyone involved was touched in so many wonderful ways by coming together for the support of animals in need. The SPCA would like to warmly thank each and every individual involved for the beds, food, treats, supplies and money that was raised on behalf of the rescued dogs!! Great things are accomplished when caring people band together!
