Why
Have a Will?
By preparing a will, you decide how your
belongings should be allocated to provide for your family,
your pets, close friends, favorite charities, or anyone else
you choose. If you don't have a will, your property may be
divided in a manner that doesn't suit you. If you have no
heirs, the State inherits everything. If you have pets and you
die without a will, you may be abandoning your beloved
companions to an unknown fate.
Making
a Will?
You
may be able to use a simple form available at most stationery
stores but the better way is to seek the advice of an
attorney. An attorney can help you with special bequests
you wish to make. An attorney will make sure the
language in your will is clear, thus avoiding disputes during
estate settlement. An attorney can also give advice on taxes
and other aspects of estate planning that may allow you to
leave more of your estate for your inheritors. You can change
your will at any time.
Providing
for the Animals
You can also make a lasting gift to
help homeless animals by remembering the Society for the
Niagara County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Inc. with a
bequest when writing or changing your will. Remembering the SPCA in this way may also entitle you to some tax deductions.
How
Do I Make a Bequest?
To leave a bequest that would continue your support for the SPCA
of Niagara and the homeless animals it helps, you may
use the following wording:
" I give, devise and bequeath to the Niagara
County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals,
Inc." (state here the percentage of estate or residue,
sum of money or otherwise describe property ) to be used for
the Society's general purposes." |
